  1. Ok I'm an animal collective fan so this was kind of a painful listen for me, but you guys did kind of convince me that merriweather post pavilion sucks, I never regarded it as their best album so like at least there's that and I've always thought lion in a coma is complete dog shit. But my dumb google account profile picture is sung tongs so judge me all you want. Also you guys bagging out dinosaur Jr. At the end man that was an extra kick in the guts like I was down and like I understood why and I also kind of understand why w dinosaur Jr but like at the same time? That hurts. Also thank you guys in general for this podcast, I like had known about rym then I finally got an account and then somehow I found floor and I complained about Caroline not posting enough album reviews and she told me to listen to this and I did and it's great. Specifically thanks for Liars and thinking fellers Union who I both hadn't heard of before, but mainly you guys have motivated to listen to music that I hadn't listened to/hadn't listened to enough. P. S Caroline my mum hates your "nasal American drone" (I'm Australian)

  2. I never paid much attention to Animal Collective, and the snippets you played for me didn't interest me much. "Surface-avant". However, if fans are led to the music AC claim to be influences, then maybe they're good for something.

  4. Carolyn would like Holinndagain. It's nothing like their other stuff, and it's just all out noise and psychedelia. AnCo has been a favorite of mine for a few years now. 2 years ago I loved them for their pop records, but now I've almost completely grown out of it. Everything after 2004 doesn't do it for me. Their first 4 records are phenomenal; they are bizarre, unique, noisy, staggering pieces of music. The problem with them is that when they started, they did music for the passion, but around 2005, they tried to make it their career...that's when things go to shit usually.

  6. well fuck, i just discovered this podcast through RYM and am really enjoying the vibe and the way you talk about the music, I actually like anco quite a bit (used to love them), and I love stars of the lid so much, it hurt a little hearing them getting ripped into so much. but i'm enjoying this podcast, only heard the gybe, gerogerigegege and this one so far, so i look forward to hearing you fine folks talking about a band that you all enjoy!! ^^

  10. hi found this pod cast through the rate your music dot com list called "bands covered on 'our podcast could be your life'" (like the our band could be your life reference hahaha) i really really like animal collective and vampire weekend its nice to hear other voices speak about them :-) . really like the spacious atmosphere that is built in campfire songs (first album with deakin!!!), and that all the songs transition into each other almost like it's performed in one take (surprise its not!! thats crasy how did they do that wtf???????). their music makes me happy and want to air drum (kind of a silly thing to do now that i have a real drum set but it feels nice) to and sing along with. mean people try to say that merriweather post pavilion was derivative of beach boys as if that is a bad thing. honestly more bands should do vocal harmony, i wish vocal harmony and melody werent so culturally tied to the 1960's of america :-( . also the "weird sound" in the mpp song 'lion in a coma' is called a jew's harp. one or two of the band members is jewish! i remember asking my family if any jewishness was there, and they commented that there may have been a relative or two in the past.

also i really like the deakin solo album its what i originally thought the group would go towards after centipede hertz. while some fans and critics may deride it as derivative of past animal collective works, i think originality is kind of an overrated meme of 20th century modernism, almost to the point of it becoming an infohazard. i like swans, felt deeply to the great annihilator and soundtracks for the blind during slide into a depression. its been over a decade since that depression began...still in it to this day.

i originally got into animal collective through a link in 2013 i found on encyclopedia dramatica article on 'hipsters' and embedded it as the primary example of hipster music. the embed was of 'my girls' from mpp and i thought 'hey this sounds kinda nice :)'. unfortunately the article described it as "gay f*ggot n***er sh*t" maybe i am gay :(
anyways i listened to mpp and really really liked it then i went to their earlier albums and love all of them. to be honest i never got much into 'here comes the indian', that album is too tense and makes me panic (there's even a track called 'panic' haha)

anyways i hope three of you liked the animal collective albums! spirit they're gone is my favorite and makes me feel happy and sad. animal collective is a really dynamic band :D i wish i could have been born a decade earlier so i could have gone to those live shows...
